Immigration formalities and customs in Cartagena de Indias
Arriving to Cartagena de Indias, the Rafael Nunez airport is
situated about 10 minutes of taxi to the touristic zones. If you
must take a boat for the islands, the docks are at 5 minutes. If
you’re going to the Isla Palma (Decameron, Isla San Bernardo),
then you have 2 hours of car to get to Tolu and then 20 minutes
of boat to your destination.
Immigration and Emigration
The immigration formalities are fast considering that the
officer doesn’t speak really well English and less French. A
passport with at least 6 months before the expiration is
required. There aren’t any visas asked for Canadians entering
Colombia. A period of 30 or 60 days will be stamped in your
passport. Do not exceed the number of days written
because you will not be able to exit the country without an
extension or a delivered conduct paper from the DAS (Departamiento
Administrativo de Seguridad). Don’t forget that you will have to
pass through the emigration exiting in order to validate your
time in Colombia.
The entering and exiting
Customs
A declaration form will be given to you before arriving in
Colombia in order to declare with you’re bringing, your reason
and the place you’ll be staying. No restrictions concerning
cigarettes, alcohol, or other objects, therefore keep in mind
that your items aren’t for sell (by example 3 laptops). The
maximum of liquid cash is 10,000 $ US. You’ll be searched
arriving and equally while exiting.
